I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees ~Henry David Thoreau

I didn’t understand when the rain overhead startled me awake at midnight.

I didn’t understand when the wind blew so hard that the power finally flickered, and went out.

I didn’t understand when the dog next door barked madly as I tried to meditate.

And I didn’t understand why the red squirrel chattered angrily when I stepped outside for my walk.

“Goodness sake’s,” I grumbled with irritation. “What do you all even want?”

Listen...the wind caressed my cheeks.

Then I opened my eyes, and I knew.

Listen to nature. Seek to understand. Immerse yourself in the stories and vibrations of life. Take the tales of it all to your heart, to your mind, to your soul. Allow yourself to be moved, to remember, to learn, to be changed. But above all…

…listen.

Just living is not enough...one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower. ~Hans Christian Andersen

I am a mother, a blogger and the author of the memoir Pitter-Pat: A Mother's Journey from Loss to New Life. I am currently in training to be a life coach through Martha Beck's Wayfinder Life Coach Training Program. I write about grief, love, and the beauty of new beginnings. My other interests are meditating, walking outside and doing pretty much anything that brings me closer to nature.
