Wednesday’s Wildflower…♥…because a flower can’t be forced to open. As nature intended, it must flourish and develop on its own time.

It was a warm summer morning, the sun had not yet fully graced the sky. Lily, eyes bright and open, quietly rose up out of bed to pull on her finest sundress, a festive dandelion colored gown with delicate white lace sewn in around the edges. Lily adored her dandelion dress. It made her feel happy, and it always drew compliments from others when she wore it.

“Because you resemble a daisy,” Grandfather always said, “and daisies are a cheerful flower to see.”

So on this morning, as the sky began to glow, Lily the daisy danced out of her room, much like a ballerina up on the tips of her toes, gliding down the hallway past her Grandfather’s room who was visiting for a few months during the warm weather. Carefully descending the stairs…

“One, three, four, six, seven, eight, ten…”

…Lily took great pains to avoid steps two, five and nine, as they were “creakers,” those stairs, and they almost always woke the family dog who liked to sleep in the kitchen.

“Whew,” Lily exhaled when she reached the landing, pausing to listen for a few moments at the sound of the breeze dusting the house before continuing on her journey.

Gingerly, Lily left the farmhouse by the sunroom door, sighing as fresh air washed over her…”Thank you”…and with feet that were bare, she stepped out onto the grass, which was cold and moist from the early morning dew. With a radiant smile, she then skipped over to the exact spot where she wanted to be–“This is perfect!”–smack-dab in the middle of a daisy field. As the rest of the world began to wake up, Lily closed her eyes, lifted her face to the rising sun, and then she and the birds waited.

It wasn’t long before she heard the dog bark–“Woof!”–the sunroom door open and close, and footsteps moving in her direction…footsteps that carried a slight limp with them as they approached.

“Good morning, Grandpa!” Lily sang, briefly opening her eyes.

“Lily, darling, what are you doing out here? We couldn’t find you in the house, dear. We were worried.”

“Shh, Grandpa!” Lily scolded. “You’ll scare them away!”

“Scare who away, Lily?” Grandpa asked, a bit confused.

“Why, the bees, of course! I overheard you and Mom yesterday, talking about how concerned you both are over the fact that the bees in our area seem to be vanishing. I heard you say how you wished you could do something about it. So, I went ahead and decided that I would do something about it!”

When Grandpa didn’t speak, Lily peeked up at him with one eye. “Don’t you see, Grandpa?” Lily asked. “I’m a flower! A happy colorful flower!”

The old man gazed down at his granddaughter in the daisy field. Lily’s face was once again lifted up to the sun. Her skin was glowing…her hair beneath her hat was on fire. She was, in every way possible, sparkling.

“I’ve come to the obvious conclusion, Grandpa, that the bee comes to the flower! The flower doesn’t go to the bee.”

“Be” a flower today, attracting love, joy, gratitude and bliss to your petals.
